We Liked: BMW 5 Series Saloon brings in just the perfect balance between style, refinement and comfort together with plush interiors.
We Hated: If you are a BMW fanatic then you could be little disappointed this time, as the BMW 5 series isn’t sporty in driving.
Introduction: BMW 5 Series entered the market in 2009 and right from its launch the two strongest rivals of BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar was in deep threat, and now with BMW 5 Series Saloon 2010 they are in for a hard time. Costing in between $42,121 to $75,554, it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea. The dashboard of BMW 5 Series Saloon personifies clarity and class to perfection, with immense quality materials, dials and pin-sharp instrumentation. The switches carved in the dashboard operate in a defined, substantial manner. There are several other functions that can be performed using iDrive rotary controller, and could be seen on the central widescreen console. The designing and material used for the interiors gives a rich and classy feel to the car and makes the passengers feel royal.
Car Configuration: The 5 Series comes with entry-level 2.0 liter diesel engine generating maximum power of 181bhp. On the other hand there is the 525d that generates maximum power of 201bhp, and the 3.0d generating thundering 241bhp. There are different variant available for the petrol engine lovers as well and you can get 5 series with three 3.0 liter engines and one twin turbocharged V8. The power pumping under the hood of petrol variants of BMW 5 series starts from 201bhp in 523i and increases around 50bhp for 528i and 535i.
The real thrilling performance comes from the 402bhp V8, and if you are a speed fanatic then that’s the model you should be getting. Despite such immense power under the hood, the car remains receptive at all speeds and does exactly what’s asked to do. The comfort and safety features are flooded in the car to provide a steady and safe ride to you.
Ownership: As mentioned above the price range for BMW 5 Series saloon starts from $42,121 to $75,554, it certainly won’t be a car for budget buyers. But if you can afford it then it really will be a gem in your collection. Also with immense power pumping under the hood, the thirst for the fuel won’t be less and hence running the car certainly won’t be easy for budget consumers. Also like all other luxury cars, the space has been reduced for BMW 5 series as well, and if you are thinking of getting it as your family car, then you could be disappointed big time as the boot space as well as the headroom for the rear passengers is limited.
Refinement and Verdict: BMW 5 series Saloon has excellent refinement and the noise of engine, suspension and tyre can’t be heard, but in order to suppress these noises, the wind noise has been neglected and can be easily heard.
The simple verdict for BMW series Saloon will be Jack of all trades, and master of almost all. |
